SOCITEY. TECHNOLOGY. SCIENCE. ENVIRONMENT
The societal implications and application when teaching the circulatory system are numerous and can be incorporated into the lessons in various ways. Students can learn about the implication and application of the circulatory system through their culminating activities, or through various simulators, videos and articles. Here are a few examples:
1. ORGAN TRANSPLANT ONTARIO
By talking to students about organ transplantation and the organization that monitors it in Ontario, is a good way to introduce the topic of Organ transplants, Xenotransplants and Nanotransplantation. Having a conversation about some of the misconceptions and issues around organ transplants allows students to have a voice on an important matter and can be effective in engaging them about the topic. This can be further supplemented by tons of articles available on the internet through various sources, journals, newspapers etc. (Link to OTO)
2. DIET.NUTRITION. HEALTH.
Diet and Health are highly correlated the function and mal function of the cardiovascular system. The Canada Food Guide is an excellent place to begin talking about diet and nutrition, physical activity and lifestyle modifications needed to lead healthier lives.
3. CAREERS RELATED TO CIRUCLATORY SYSTEM: FORM & FUNCTION
There are numerous articles that discuss the latest advances in heart surgery, new discoveries and inventions related to circulatory health and function.
4. TIMELINES ASSIGNMENTS
Having students look at discoveries and inventions over the last century that have directly impacted what we know about the circulatory system is a great way to introduce the lesson.
