Lesson Sequence
Evolution is one of the more controversial areas of grade 11 biology. It should be taught with great consideration for the students' and their respective values. The job of the teacher in this class, is to simply present the knowledge instead of force feed it to them.
A sample unit is presented in this section of the website. Multiple lesson ideas are presented for teachers to develop their own lessons to teach the evolution unit.
An activity that can be used as a diagnostic assessment or as an assessment for or as learning is a survey that lets students check their understanding of the work as follows:

Grade 11 Evolution Key Concepts
Through this unit students will learn :
How living things are able to change over time
The different types of evidence that support the theory of evolution
To describe the contributions of scientists like Darwin to evolution
To explain and model the process of natural selection
To explain how modern scientific advancement have helped to understand evolution
The process of speciation
To describe the major processes of evolutionary change (bottleneck and founders)
To explain how human actions influence the evolution of species an extinction rates
Key Questions that students should be able to answer by the end of the unit are:
1. What role does variation play in natural selection?
2. Can organisms evolve within their lifetime?
3. How does the environment affect the process of evolution?
4. What is the supporting evidence for the theory of evolution?
