SBI3U Evolution
As per the 2008 Curriculum for grade 11 Biology, students are required to learn about Evolution. Students are expected to learn about a variety of topics encompassing and relating to evolution.
One focus of the unit is for students to learn about the environmental impacts of artificial selection technologies, and inversely the impacts of the environment of natural selection and endangered species. Students will be able to gain an appreciation for the relationship that exists between the environment and the different types of adaptive selection.
Students will also be able to critically analyze the scientific evidence that supports the theory, allowing them to develop a greater understanding and appreciation of the theory.
The evolution strand also covers the expectation that students will be able to demonstrate that they have an understanding of the theory of evolution, the evidence it supports, and have some understanding of the mechanisms by which it occurs.
