There are two options that you may pick from to complete this assignment. You may pick between option A where you create a written report about a species that you have developed, and option B where you may visually display all of the required information.
The format of the assignment for any written portions will be as follows:
- 1 inch margins, size 12 font, Times New Roman
- Double spaced
- No more than 5 full pages (including diagrams and title page for option
A)
You must include the following in your paper/visual representation.
To create your organism you will do the following:
- Select an origin species that your new organism is based on
- Name it (Latin name and common name)
- Discuss the environment changing event(s) that caused your organism to
evolve, including information (if necessary) about (does not need to be in this
order):
- Intermediate species
- Adaptations
- Mutations
- Founder effect
- Bottleneck Effect
- Cumulative Selection
- Speciation – Allopatric, Sympatric
- Timeline (how much time in years did it all take)
- Explain any homologous, analogous, and vestigial traits in comparison
with your origin species. Diagrams are
helpful.
- Discuss what kind of selection keeps your trait in the population
- Discuss any speciation factors that keep your species isolated from
others (prezygotic/postzygotic factors)
- Lastly, draw a diagram, with labels, of your organism. Does not need to be perfect, photoshop works
too.
